Bayard, NE, proudly wears its Tree City USA status because it didn’t come easily. In June 2017, two tornados touched down in and around the small city of 1,000 people, causing widespread property damage. The storms also did a number on the area’s trees.

The Box Canyon Fuels Reduction Good Neighbor Authority Project between the Claunch-Pinto Soil and Water Conservation District and the USDA Forest Service with state funding enhances the function of one of the last intact watersheds (Upper Arroyo de Manzano) in the Manzano Mountains of New Mexico.

Good Neighbor Authority Spotlight authored by Gary Ellingson, Montana DNRC GNA Forester.

Multiple partners implemented a very effective, cross boundary fuels reduction project in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) along the eastern side of Steamboat Springs, CO through a Good Neighbor Agreement (GNA) called the Steamboat Front Fuels Project.

The Vallenar Young-Growth Good Neighbor agreement is the second agreement in Southeast Alaska designed to assist the timber industry in transitioning from old-growth harvesting to young-growth harvests.

This month, we are pleased to feature Chad Davis, Director of State & Private Forestry with USDA Forest Service Regions 6 and 10.

Initiated in 2016, the Acorn and Shaver Springs Good Neighbor Authority (GNA) project was one of the first GNA agreements implemented in California.
 

The Pacific Islands Forestry Committee (PIFC), in cooperation with the Western Forestry Leadership Coalition (WFLC) and the Timmons Group, developed an online interactive StoryMap highlighting forestry projects from across the Pacific Islands focused on water and wildfire.

In 2018, the Nebraska Forest Service (NFS) signed a Master Agreement with the Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands (NNF&G).
