FEMA, Forest Service Officials Respond to wildfire, climate change questions at Simi hearing

Federal and state emergency services officials testified in Simi Valley on Tuesday about a need for more flexibility in how to use and qualify for disaster funds.

They need more funding to help prepare communities before a wildfire ignites and, in some cases, relief from cost-share requirements to qualify for the money.

Inside Simi Valley City Hall, administrators from FEMA, the U.S. Forest Service, California’s Office of Emergency Services, Cal Fire and others were sworn in as witnesses in a congressional field hearing.
