Meet a Forester, Leanne Marten

This month, we are pleased to feature Leanne Marten, Regional Forester, Northern Region, USDA Forest Service.

What was your first position in the field of forestry?

I was a seasonal employee on the Palouse Ranger District, Clearwater National Forest conducting silviculture exams/data collection.

How long have you been in your role?

I have been Regional Forester for the Northern Region since June 2015

What do you enjoy most about being a WFLC member?

The partnership and opportunity to work together, across landscapes, for the benefit of the resources, communities and citizens.

What do you see to be the emerging issues in your region?

Continuing to meet the needs of the resources and communities we serve. We must continue to find ways to get more work done on-the-ground. The ability to do what is needed, in the timeframe desired, across all landscapes remains challenging. Working together with our partners, volunteers, other Agencies, and Tribes is vital to our mutual success in meeting natural resource management objectives that meet ecological, social and economic desires of today and into the future.

What is your favorite tree?

Larch. I have always enjoyed the changes throughout the season it exhibits.
