Landscape Scale Restoration Grants Team

The Western Forestry Leadership Coalition (WFLC) is charged with overseeing the competitive process that recommends western projects for funding through the USDA Forest Service Landscape Scale Restoration (LSR) Competitive Grant program.

In order to facilitate this competition, WFLC has chartered a western LSR grants team, which is charged with overseeing and implementing the annual LSR competitive grant process.

The LSR grants team:

  • Facilitates the grant application process
  • Scores and provides comments on the grant proposals
  • Provides WFLC members with a ranked list of grant proposals recommended for funding

The LSR grants team consists of 12 members, each serving a three-year term. Terms are calculated based on the calendar year. Nominations are solicited from State Foresters and Forest Service regions to ensure equal distribution. Nominations are approved by the WFLC Executive Board.

Federal representatives include one individual from each of the five State, Private, and Tribal Forestry western regional areas and one individual from the western Research Station.

State representatives include six state representatives, which rotate among the 17 members from western states, as well as one Pacific Island Committee Forestry member (Hawaii is grouped with the states).

There may also be a staff member from the Council of Western State Foresters that acts as a facilitator, as well as a State Forester liaison to the LSR grants team. These representatives, however, do not participate in the evaluation of grant proposals.
